What Did Our Team Get Up to in September?
Once a year, we close the office for a day and spend some time together as a team. This September, our annual team day took us from practicing CPR to working with molten glass. It was quite a day.
We thought we’d give you a little peek behind the scenes because these days are an important part of who we are. They give us time to learn together, strengthen our teamwork, and have fun with the people we spend so much of our week with.
Keeping Our Skills Fresh
We started the day on the more serious side by refreshing our CPR skills and reviewing emergency management. Hopefully, we don’t need to use these skills, but being prepared matters. Taking time away from our normal schedule gives everyone a chance to practice together, refresh key knowledge, and ensure we are ready to respond as a team if an unexpected situation arises.
Continuing education has always been important to us. Dentistry keeps evolving, and so do the skills that help us care for you well. Some training involves new dental techniques or technology, while other training, like this, simply ensures the whole team stays prepared and confident.
Things Got a Little Hotter
After training, we traded CPR equipment for safety glasses and headed out to try glass blowing. None of us will be giving up dentistry for a career in glass art just yet, but we had a great time learning something completely outside our comfort zone.
Glass blowing requires plenty of concentration, patience, communication, and trust in the person working beside you. Come to think of it, those qualities sound pretty familiar. There was also a lot of laughter, which probably comes as no surprise if you’ve spent much time with us.
Why We Make Time for Days Like This
You normally see us when everyone is in their familiar role at the office. One person may welcome you, another may take your scans or X-rays, and someone else may help Dr. Conover care for your smile. Behind the scenes, though, we are one team.
Spending time learning and trying new things together strengthens the relationships that carry back into the office. When a team communicates well, trusts one another, and genuinely enjoys working together, we think patients can feel the difference.
That’s one reason we make room for both sides of a day like this. We take our responsibilities to you seriously, but we also believe there should be room for laughter, connection, and enjoying the people around us.
Back to Teeth!
By the end of the day, we had refreshed some very important skills, learned a few completely new ones, and created some interesting glasswork along the way. Then it was time to put away the glass-blowing tools and get back to the instruments we know a little better.
We’re grateful to have a team that enjoys learning together and, just as importantly, enjoys being together. We’re grateful you’re part of our community, which gives us a reason to keep learning, growing, and bringing our best back to the office. The next time you see us, feel free to ask how our glass-blowing careers are coming along! Although, to be honest, we’ll probably stick with dentistry.
If it’s time for your next appointment, schedule with us at our office located in Cincinnati, OH. We’ll be happy to see you, catch up, and put all that teamwork back to work where it belongs.
